Dresden and Prague, two newbuild plug-in hybrid firefighting vessels, are built by Damen Shipyards for Flotte Hamburg, a subsidiary of Hamburg Port Authority (HPA).

After the first 100 days of operation of Dresden and Prague, Flotte Hamburg feedbacks that it is satisfied with the two ships. Christof Sacher, the responsible project manager at Flotte Hamburg said: "Due to the full approval for the use of the EST battery system 'Green Orca 1050' on inland waterway vessels, which was already available at the start of the project, the first hybrid ships of the Hamburg fleet were successfully put into operation in close cooperation with Damen Shipyards and the electrical and automation project partner Royal Van der Leun."
We are happy to see that the plug-in hybrid enables up to four hours of fully electric and emission-free sailing through the port. Flotte Hamburg MD Karsten Schönewald said of the newbuilds: “their propulsion technology represents the next step for us in the evolution of an environmentally-friendly fleet”.
