During the 1980s, navigation and communication between vessels was a major constraint in the martime industry. Ships could barely communicate between each other and when new tasks arose, it was incredibly difficult to get the correct message across in a timely manner. By the time they contacted the ship, it was off the port, and messages sent to the radio went unnoticed and unanswered. This lack of effective communication channeled them into spending a lot of time & money. That’s when the idea to have a working solution to contact their ships whenever they want came to the fore.
Then, the ability to use satellite communications came to light. It was nothing more than a phone to contact the ship crew through satellite, but its effectiveness was huge as it enabled shipping companies to manage their fleet of ships much more effectively. However, it was expensive and difficult to use initially but it was the start of satellite technology which helped the maritime industry solve communication problems.
Making the Connection; Enhancing the Service
Today, the delivery of data is important than anything else. We develop, design, and implement all sorts of solutions, including Marine navigation control consoles for the Marine sector. Every solution we design is according to the unique needs of the client and its priorities.
Van der Leun China has designed & developed many tools and systems, including Marine navigation control consoles, to help ship companies enjoy much-needed operational efficiency. Since the needs and priorities are changing, the need to have an optimized solution is changing too.

Different Budgets, Different Needs
Different clients come with different needs and requirements, and we experienced one in particular that wanted an effective system to communicate a large fleet of shipping vessels. This was the ultimate requirement, but the client wanted a low-cost solution.
There are such circumstances that need low-cost solutions, and at the other end, there are companies with a modern fleet requiring fully customized electrical system integration project management facilities. Van der Leun China offers a full set of solutions to provide creative set hardware and service solutions that allow navigation and communication amongst vessels to be optimized.
Van der Leun China is an intelligently developed company with its target consumers lying all over the world in the maritime industry. Our clients need personalized solutions or systems that can meet their unique needs. It is often said that no two companies have the same needs or requirements, which we have found to be true to a great extent.
You can’t just say that you need a marine system because it's such a broad term, so the specification is needed. Our ideal clients seek efficiency in all their activities, value digitalization, and look for solutions to improve their communication, monitoring, and inspection system.
The on-going COVID-19 pandemic caught every business unprepared and imposed challenges that they weren't prepared for. That’s why many companies stopped their operations. That’s because they wanted to understand the direction of the market and its flow.
At Van der Leun China we were prepared in advance, and they started working remotely as soon as they went under lockdown. Van der Leun China kept delivering its services 24/7, as it has always done.
There’s no doubt that this on-going pandemic has caused Van der Leun Chinaic disruptions to businesses across the world. However, we see some emerging trends and opportunities in it. Some of the popular trends include businesses leaning towards digital solutions.
One recent idea which has been talked about in the industry is that companies should opt for remote monitoring to inspect the equipment instead of sending a technical team on site. The more they’ll send technical teams, the more it’ll cost. However, remote monitoring & inspection solution will save time & money, thereby increasing efficiency in every aspect. Besides, one of its benefits will be improved connectivity among ship crew and management sitting in the office. So what do you think of it? Do you think advanced monitoring & inspection solutions can help in saving time and improving efficiency? And, if you think it’s a practical solution, then when will you have the one for your business? Do let us know!
