Information

Shipping tries to go green by reducing the carbon footprint it leaves as well as minimizing waste, energy consumption and waste disposal. It also seeks to reduce or eliminate shipping greenhouse gases by using ships that operate more efficiently and have low emissions. There are shipping companies that use biodegradable containers. The latest trend in shipping is to use container ships, which are manufactured from old container ships that were manufactured for other purposes. Most of these containers contain toxic materials that contribute to global warming.

Van der Leun China is also doing its part in helping the industry to become more green through its battery container solution partnership with Van Alfen, as well as offering a range of hybrid solutions for companies around the globe.

Green Container Ships

There are shipping companies in the industry that choose to go green to reduce their shipping fuel consumption. They have reduced the amount of fossil fuels used, which translates to minimizing fuel emissions from their ships. The ship burns more fuel when it is traveling over long distances so the fewer the number of trips, the lower the fuel consumption. In addition, some shipping companies have opted for electric powered engines for their ships, which reduces the need for non-biodegradable fuel such as petroleum and diesel.

The efforts of shipping also include using alternative fuel sources. One of the most popular is the use of biofuel. There are now shipping services that ship wood, coconut coke and vegetable oil. Another option is to ship your car and save fuel. This is because car batteries contain poisonous chemicals that can leak into the sea and poison people who may come in contact with it.

Another initiative that shipping companies are undertaking is promoting green efforts. One way is to try to recycle any excess product that they might receive. For example, if you send an ocean freight shipment to India, the company will collect and break down any plastic that may be received. If they can't break it down, they will use machines to break it down. These machines are sometimes called "broken down bins" and they can be seen at different places around the world. Other companies use solar panels to collect energy from the sun during the day to be stored in batteries, which power generators during the night.

One of the green efforts being taken by shipping companies is testing solar-powered LED lights in shipping containers. These lights do not produce harmful emissions and also do not pollute the sea. Some companies are experimenting with the lights to see how well they work. Tests have been successful and so far, the results have been promising. They could possibly become the norm moving forward.
